Want improved athletic performance? Juice some beets and drink them down. According to a study in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, trained cyclists drank about 4.7 ounces of the nitrate-rich beet juice or a placebo for six days, then participated in a 10K timed trial.
