Health Benefits of Gratitude: How to Practice Gratitude for Health & Happiness by Julie Potiker
Gratitude may have health benefits? Yes! Taking the time to feel gratitude may decrease pain, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, boost energy, get us exercising more, reduce loneliness, make us happier and improve our relationships. Practicing gratitude every day may help us experience all those health and wellness benefits!
Has all the buzz in recent years about gratitude practice got you wondering how to jump on the joy train? One simple way to get started with your very own gratitude practice is to keep a journal. Here’s how:
1. Notice times When You Feel Joyo During the Day
Take in that good mental state for a couple of breaths, allowing it to turn into a neural trait. Mindfully focusing on joy helps condition your brain to feel more joy in the future. What fires together wires together!
2. Write It Down in a Gratitude Journal
You can’t be grateful and worried simultaneously. Keep a gratitude journal. Write in it at least once a day, answering two questions:
- What did I enjoy today?
- What am I grateful for today?
3. Check in With Yourself in About Three Weeks
What positive differences do you notice? How are you feeling?
Practicing gratitude makes us feel more gratitude. With something this simple and effective at your fingertips, there’s no reason not to start improving life right here, today.
