Preparing for Emergencies: 5 Things You Need to Include in Your ICE Contact Information

You know having an ICE (in case of emergency) contact on your phone can save your life. But do you know what to put in it? Here are five things you must have in your ICE contact:

  • Medical History: Like the fact that you had surgery last year or that you are allergic to penicillin. Jot down anything that an ER doctor needs to know in the “Notes” field of your contact.
  • Medications You Take: Write the names of your prescription medications, vitamins and supplements in the “Notes” field above your medical history.
  • Your Contact's Relationship: If you have more than one ICE contact, name them “ICE Husband” or “ICE Friend,” so the medical team knows who to call first.
  • Alternate Numbers: Does your contact work in different locations? Note a location/day next to their various numbers.
  • Social Media Links: Adding social media links and screen names give doctors another way to reach them. A quick DM or tweet might be the fastest way to get their attention.
