Healing Power of Trees: Enhance Your Immune System With Shinrin-Yoku! by Stephanie Cannoe
I find healing and peace when I am outside with one of my favorite trees. As a child, my fondest memories are watching the clouds go by, while I lay under “my special tree.” I have never felt more protected, nurtured and unburdened, as when I sit with a tree. We speak to each other from the soul. I still do this today. I truly feel a deeply personal connection to trees and I guess I’m not crazy after all.
According to Matthew Silverstone, author of "Blinded By Science," trees have unique vibrational patterns which cause positive changes in our biological behaviors when touched. Hugging trees, yes, actually giving a tree a hug, increases levels of the hormone oxytocin, which promotes feelings of calmness and emotional bonding. The freshest air you can breathe is under a tree! This is because a trees leaves serve as filters of the air, removing dust and providing you with cleaner air. And trees are more connected to the earth than any of us, what better way to be grounded.
Most importantly, all of your senses are engaged, you can get out of your head for a while and listen to the sound of the rustle of the leaves, songs of a bird perched on a branch, see the glistening of the leaves in the hot summer sun. The experience is like no other – there really is something magical about trees. Ask permission to receive and you will find that tree, which offers you the exact frequency you need. So, next time you are near a tree, expect literally to receive good vibrations.
