Making Life Better: Why You May Want to Power Down Your Technology by Nancy Dafoe
We are besieged. We have access through media to incidents of bullying, cruelty, pettiness and meanness from even our highest officials. Life via technology is certainly interesting, but it can also be exhausting and emotionally damaging without a break. Leave social media, news feeds, Facebook and Twitter, even your favorite political columnists, outside for the day.
Although we love our technology for all it offers – resources, instant information, photo sharing – sometimes it’s necessary to go dark. Maybe you won’t find out about that meeting in the Seychelles as soon as The Washington Post reports, but you will be able to find out sooner or later. Draw, paint, sing. Take a walk without technology along for the ride. (Yes, you got me. I wrote this on my laptop!)
