Year after year, people sabotage their good intentions of healthy eating by falling into the trap of emotional eating. Telling yourself you’re not allowed certain foods is a sure way to crave them, and then when you experience negative emotions, overeating provides temporary comfort. This typically cycles into feelings of guilt and shame. Ask yourself these three questions:
- Why has emotional eating served you in the past?
- Why isn’t this strategy working for you now?
- Can you forgive yourself?
