Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), previously known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), is one of the most severe and challenging kinds of pain, and many physicians have limited experience in diagnosing and treating it.
It is important to recognize that multiple kinds of pain are involved in CRPS. In addition to the pain caused by sympathetic reflex issues, vascular and neuropathic pain and ‘brain pain,’ there is a very large component of secondary muscle pain that may also be a severe cause of the discomfort. So, looking for and treating all the components of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is important.
The research-based approach detailed in my book, Pain Relief in 4 Simple Steps: Eliminating the Root Causes of Chronic Pain, isolates factors that may really be driving the pain – and steps you can take to begin addressing it.
The truth is, most pain isn’t just one issue – it’s often a combination of factors like muscle dysfunction, inflammation, nerve irritation and even how the brain processes pain. To eliminate the pain, you need to know how to start addressing each factor.
Because many people are dealing with three or even all four of these factors at the same time, you need a structured roadmap for validation and relief instead of confusing theories with limited practical value.
In my opinion, one of the failings of modern medical education is that it does not provide physicians with the knowledge or tools to properly understand and effectively treat pain.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirms that approximately 24.3 percent of American adults experience chronic pain annually with an additional 8.5 percent of adults suffering from “high-impact chronic pain” which seriously limits major life or work activities.
