Homemade Ranch Salad Dressing Recipe: Drizzle This Fresh Ranch Dressing on Everything Sauces/Condiments Salads

Ranch dressing is a big deal in my house. Yes, it’s used as a salad dressing, but it’s so much more than that. My husband and sons use it regularly as a dip and dipping sauce. My sons especially like it with pizza or chicken wings (my hubby prefers bleu cheese dressing in this case). They all like to dunk fried appetizers in ranch dressing, such as chicken fingers, fried mushrooms and other fried vegetables. And let’s not forget using ranch as a condiment for french fries (this one is not for me, but my boys love it!).

I personally like ranch for what it was intended for: as a salad dressing. I do like it with a vegetable tray, too, though. My boys generally won’t eat raw vegetables without ranch, and many years ago I decided that that was a battle I don’t need to fight.

Luckily ranch dressing can be altered, depending on what you’re using it with. For instance, if you are making homemade salad dressing, you can add more buttermilk to make it thinner. On the other hand, if you’re making a dip and therefore need a thicker consistency, add a little more sour cream or mayonnaise until you reach the desired thickness.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for a delicious homemade ranch dressing – to enjoy however you like!

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: Makes about 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (I prefer Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise)
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Whisk together the buttermilk, sour cream, mayonnaise and parsley.
  2. Stir in the salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix until everything is well combined. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use, at least 1 hour.
