Nonna’s Lasagna Roll-Ups Recipe: A 4-Ingredient, Budget-Friendly Weeknight Dinner Pasta Dinner Budget-friendly Beef

Do you love your grandmother’s recipes but just don’t have the time to make them exactly as she did? You’re not alone! Some of the recipes our mothers and grandmothers made, and still make, are a bit too complicated and time-consuming for our full, chaotic lives today. This is a great lasagna roll-up recipe with a time saver built in. It’s not complicated and requires only basic ingredients. It will help you get dinner on the table and feed those hungry mouths sooner.

I love this lasagna recipe for a few reasons. First, using jarred Italian sauce (sorry, Nonna!) saves a lot of time. But that’s not the only time saver. The easy recipe has only four ingredients in this recipe and is on the table in 30-ish minutes. Also, if your kids are getting bored with their dinner options or are picky eaters and don’t like much, lasagna roll-ups are fun and a little different from traditional lasagna but still have that great, kid-approved taste. Finally, with only four ingredients, this recipe is budget-friendly. Serve with a salad and Italian bread.

Cuisine: Italian
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 6 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package directions
  • 1 pound (16 ounces) ground beef
  • 1 jar (14 ounces) spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (divided)

Here's how to make it:

  1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce and heat through.
  2. Spread 1/4 cup meat sauce over each noodle, then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of mozzarella cheese on top. In an 8-inch square baking dish, carefully roll up noodles and place seam side down (you can roll them into whatever “shape” you like). Top with remaining sauce and cheese.
  3. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes or until roll-ups are heated through completely and cheese is melted.

You are so right, Ann Marie Patitucci - we want that "grandma" taste and feel without all the work she put into her recipes. I love this simpler variation, thank you!
