Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup bread flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
Filling
- 2 egg whites
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 cups shortening
- 1 box (16 ounces) powdered sugar
Here's how to make it:
- Cream the shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla together. Add the milk.
- In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
- Make 1/4-cup mounds of the batter on parchment paper-covered baking sheets. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and cool.
- To make the filling, beat the egg whites until stiff. Add the vanilla, flour and milk. Beat well. Add the shortening and powdered sugar and beat until thoroughly combined.
- Mound the filling between the cooled chocolate cakes.
