Pork chops cannot be beat for an inexpensive, delicious, high-protein dinner. Pork chops are on the menu a lot at my house. Raiding the spice rack is how to get great flavor on those chops. I find myself going to some spices more often than others. Three of my favorite are smoked paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. You cannot go wrong with that combination, and these moist, crispy pan-fried skillet pork chops are proof of that.
Do you know the difference between regular ground paprika and smoked paprika? Regular paprika is simply dried and ground peppers. Smoked paprika uses the same peppers, but they've been smoked over a fire before being ground, which gives the spice a deeper, smoky flavor. Check out these recipes using smoked paprika.
To make this simple pork recipe you only need six ingredients from the fridge, pantry and spice rack: bone-in pork chops, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, flour (all-purpose or gluten-free) and olive oil for pan-frying. The pork chops are on your dinner plate in about 15 minutes.
Serve this high-protein dinner with your favorite side dishes. I served mine with macaroni and cheese and smoky sweet southern greens. Delish! Plus we got the health benefits of protein in every bite.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 2 pork chops, bone-in
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 - 2 tablespoons flour (all-purpose or gluten-free flour)
- olive oil, for frying
Here's how to make it:
- Season the pork chops with salt and black pepper, to taste, then sprinkle both sides with the paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. (Adjust the amounts of each seasoning to suit your tastes.)
- Dust both sides of the pork chops with the flour. (For a gluten-free dinner, use gluten-free flour.)
- Heat about 1 tablespoon of oil in a nonstick skillet or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. (I used a cast iron skillet.) Cook the pork chops on one side until golden brown.
- Flip the pork chops over and continue to cook until cooked through and crispy, about 4 to 5 minutes per side depending on thickness. (Pork is cooked through at 145 degrees F internal temperature on a food thermometer.) Serve. This recipe can easily be doubled to feed four.
