We don't eat much fast food at my house. One restaurant that is an exception, however, is Chick-fil-a. Right now my favorite salad dressing at the chicken establishment is their creamy salsa dressing. Delicious! You get all those Tex-Mex flavors in one creamy salad dressing. It's also known about me that if I find something I like at a restaurant, I'm going to try and recreate it at home. Enter this Chick-fil-a creamy salad dressing copycat recipe.
This easy Mexican-inspired salad dressing recipe is quick, easy and so flavorful on those salad greens. You don't need a crazy list of ingredients to make the salad dressing either. Here is what you need to gather to whip up a batch for yourself: mayonnaise or Greek yogurt (I used mayonnaise), salsa (red, not green salsa), a lime for juicing, fresh cilantro, ground cumin, chili powder, ground paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and an optional fresh jalapeno if you like things spicier.
The ingredients are simply whirled in a blender until smooth. Done. Of course I bought a bottle at my grocery store so I could compare the flavors. The homemade creamy salsa salad dressing has stronger flavors than the bottled, which I prefer. You can adjust the amounts of each ingredient to suit your personal tastes.
The simple creamy salad dressing is obviously delicious on salads, but you can also use it as a dip for vegetables or tortilla chips or even as a sandwich spread. I see my BLT and club sandwich getting a spicy upgrade soon! How will you use it?
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup salsa (jarred or homemade red salsa)
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 jalapeno, optional (for less heat remove the seeds and ribs)
Here's how to make it:
- Put all the ingredients into a blender. (You could also put them into a mixing bowl and use an immersion blender.)
- Pulse or process until smooth. (If you are using a fresh jalapeno, add a little at a time until it reaches your heat level. Leave the seeds and ribs in for a really spicy dressing. Omit if you want a milder dressing.) Season with salt and black pepper, if desired. Store the salad dressing in a salad dressing cruet, mason jar or airtight container in the fridge.
