With long work hours and long commutes, one thing I don't want is long hours cooking dinner at night. This simple turkey taco chili recipe can be bowl ready in about 10 minutes with pretty much zero prep. The ground turkey chili is hearty without being too heavy – and gets you out of the kitchen fast!
To make this high-fiber and high-protein chili recipe you will need just five simple ingredients: ground turkey (check out the health benefits of turkey), chili powder, taco seasoning, canned pinto beans and a can of diced tomatoes. Brown the turkey, add the rest of the ingredients and in a few minutes dinner is done ... like magic.
Using taco seasoning along with chili powder adds a Tex-Mex punch of flavor to the chili. So good! You can add whatever toppings you'd like to the chili. We like chopped green onions, shredded cheese, sour cream and corn chips. This easy chili is perfect for lunch or for dinner, and can even be packed for lunch the next day.
Cooking Tips
- If you don't have taco seasoning, you can use a packet of chili seasoning.
- If I'm not in a rush, sometimes I'll add chopped onion and garlic to the turkey meat as it browns.
- I like to use fire-roasted diced tomatoes in this recipe for added flavor, but you can use regular diced tomatoes.
- Occasionally I'll add a can of drained whole kernel corn.
- I don't measure the amount of chili powder I add. I just sprinkle it in, then taste before serving to see if I want more.
- You could use black beans instead of pinto beans.
