You know when you do something a certain way, and just assume that everyone else does or at least knows about it? Well, that came into play when I was frying bacon one day.
After Hurricane Beryl hit, I had three houseguests for a week. After cooking breakfast for them the first morning, one commented how the bacon was perfect. She loves crisp bacon and was impressed by how the whole piece was crisp, including where it usually bubbles up and stays a little wobbly. After basking in the praise for a second, I told her I cooked the bacon in the microwave. She had never heard of it, so the next morning I gave my first cooking class.
If you've never cooked bacon in the microwave, you should give it a try. Yes, I've cooked bacon in a skillet before, but I end up cleaning up all the spatters wondering why I did it. Cooking bacon in the microwave is easy, requires less cleanup and results in amazingly crispy bacon.
Serve the crisp bacon as a side dish with your favorite breakfast or brunch foods like eggs, pancakes, waffles or breakfast casseroles. You can also use the bacon in recipes calling for cooked, crumbled bacon. This is the only way I cook bacon when I make a BLT sandwich.

Recipe Notes
- Nutritional value is based on one slice of cooked bacon. The information will vary based on brand and type of bacon used.
- If you are using the bacon in a recipe and need the bacon grease, simply pour it off of the plate.
- My microwave automatically rotates, but if yours doesn't, you may need to turn the plate midway during cooking.
Here's how to make it:
- Lay the bacon strips on a microwave-safe plate.
- Cover the plate with a paper towel.
- Place the plate in the microwave.
- Microwave on high for 4 to 10 minutes, depending on the number of slices. Start with 4 minutes and take a look to see how crisp the bacon is. Continue to cook until it reaches your desired crispness.
- Carefully remove the paper towel. Put the bacon onto another dry paper towel to absorb excess grease.
- Serve with your favorite breakfast foods or crumble to use in recipes.
