Crispy Taco Tots Recipe: Tater Tots With Mexican Flair (2 Ingredients) by Donna John
Taco seasoning can be used in so many ways other than just to season ground beef for taco night. My three-ingredient chicken ranch tacos, creamy ground beef taco soup and baked taco chicken are three delicious examples. My new way to use taco seasoning is on tater tots. These crispy taco tots have all those Mexican flavors we love, along with that tater tot crunch we crave. So good and so easy to make!
The ingredient list is super short for this tater tot potato side dish. All you need is a bag of frozen tater tots and an envelope of dry taco seasoning. Put the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet, sprinkle with the seasoning and bake until golden brown and crispy.
Not only are these a fun side dish with dinner, but you could also serve them as a quick snack or appetizer. Dunk them in ranch dressing or get spicy with this creamy serrano avocado sauce or Amazon green sauce.

Recipe Notes
- I used Old El Paso Taco Seasoning, but use your favorite. This brand is gluten-free. If you buy gluten-free tater tots (some brands are, and some are not), this is a gluten-free recipe.
- You could season with a little salt, if desired.
- For easier cleanup, cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
- If you don't want to use a pre-made taco seasoning, make homemade taco seasoning!
- This recipe could easily be cut in half. Save the remaining seasoning for another recipe.
- Store any leftover tater tots in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days.
Here's how to make it:
- Put the tater tots into a baking pan or on a baking sheet in a single layer. Sprinkle with the taco seasoning.
- Bake in a preheated 425-degree F oven for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until crispy.
