Southern Buttermilk Chocolate Bundt Cake Recipe Is a Trip to Chocolate Heaven

Who doesn't love a big slice of rich chocolate cake? We know it is one of our favorite desserts, and always a fan favorite at 30Seconds. This moist chocolate cake recipe has a Southern twist with the addition of buttermilk. This is one Bundt cake recipe you won't soon forget!

To make this Southern cake you need a few basic baking ingredients. Here is what you need to grab from your pantry and fridge: butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, eggs, all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt and buttermilk. The ingredients come together with the help of an electric mixer, and bake up in about 30 to 40 minutes in the oven.

No one will turn away a slice of this incredible chocolate cake for dessert. To make it even more rich, sweet and decadent, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream (we like this chocolate whipped cream). If you prefer to frost the cake, spoon on homemade chocolate ganache or make your favorite cake frosting recipe.

Recipe Notes

  • Let the cake cool completely before adding ganache or frosting to it doesn't melt into the cake.
  • Store the cake in a cake carrier or airtight container.

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a stand mixer or with an electric mixer, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract for about 2 minutes. Add the eggs and beat well.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add a little of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, until everything is incorporated. Beat for about 1 minute after ingredients are combined.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased and floured Bundt pan. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and cool about 20 minutes before removing from the pan. If frosting or adding ganache, let the cake cool completely.
