Gluten-Free Green Bean Casserole Recipe Is Just As Delicious As the Classic by Elisa Schmitz

Gluten-Free Green Bean Casserole Recipe Is Just As Delicious As the Classic

One of the challenges of eating gluten-free is that many classic casserole recipes just don't taste the same. This holiday season, I decided I would try to change that – starting with the classic green bean casserole we all know and love.

Green bean casserole with french fried onions is one of those holiday recipes many of us look forward to. But, until now, it was tough to find gluten-free versions of the canned soup and french fried onions that are required ingredients in this family favorite recipe.

I'm happy to say that this gluten-free version of the popular green bean casserole is just as delicious as the classic. Plus, it still has minimal prep and is ready in no time. Here's what you need to make this easy vegetarian green bean casserole recipe: cooked green beans, gluten-free cream of mushroom soup, milk, gluten-free french fried onions and gluten-free Worcestershire or soy sauce.

This delicious casserole smells amazing as it bakes, and it's the perfect side dish for turkey, ham, beef or your other favorite proteins. It's so simple to prepare, you won't need to wait for the holidays (go ahead and make it any day of the year)!

Recipe Notes

  • You can use regular-cut green beans or french-style green beans, depending on your preference.
  • You could use frozen green beans as long as they're thawed and cooked.
  • You can use regular milk or your milk of choice (I used almond milk).
  • I used Pacific Foods brand organic, gluten-free cream of mushroom soup.
  • I used Natural Earth brand organic, gluten-free french fried onions.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave.

Here’s how to make it:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the green beans, soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce and 2/3 cup of the french fried onions. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, if desired. Mix well to combine.
  2. Pour green bean mixture into a 13x9-inch baking pan or casserole dish that's been sprayed with cooking spray.
  3. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 25 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven and top with the remaining french fried onions.
  5. Bake for about 5 more minutes, until golden brown.
