6-Ingredient Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe: A Delicious Slow-cooker Recipe With Asian Flair

I prefer recipes that don’t involve a lot of prep or cleanup time, so one-pot meals are my go-to during busy weeks. And slow cooker recipes make things even easier! Just throw the ingredients in the pot and leave it all day to do its thing. That’s why I chose to try these honey garlic slow-cooked chicken thighs, but the fact that they’re also absolutely delicious landed them a permanent spot in my dinner rotation.

All you need is six ingredients and about 10 minutes to mix up the sauce. These chicken thighs are so tender that they fall apart when you cut them with a fork. Thanks to the delicious syrupy sauce, they’re great served over rice. Add some broccoli, sugar snap peas or a salad for the perfect weekday meal. Sure to please even picky husbands and kids!

Here is your short shopping list for this easy chicken recipe: boneless, skinless chicken thighs, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, garlic, dried basil and black pepper. I bet you already have most of those ingredients in your kitchen!

Recipe Notes

  • I used jarred garlic instead of fresh.
  • I added a few squirts of AR’s Hot Southern Honey to take the flavor up a notch.
  • The original recipe didn’t call for salt and pepper. Because the soy sauce is so salty, I only peppered the chicken.
  • This recipe is good reheated in the microwave the next day.
  • You could also add sesame seeds to enhance the Asian flair.
  • The sauce will get nice and syrupy and will almost caramelize on the chicken. Make sure it doesn’t burn if cooking on high.
  • When you serve the chicken, don’t forget the sauce. Ladle a generous amount on top as it’s the star of the show!

Here's how to make it:

  1. Mix soy sauce, ketchup, honey, garlic and basil together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of the slow cooker. Season with black pepper, if desired.
  3. Pour the sauce over the chicken. Make sure the meat is completely covered with the sauce.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook for 6 hours on low or 3 to 4 hours on high.
