Pesto is a fan favorite, and so is almost anything baked and cheesy. Why not combine the three into one amazing recipe? This easy pesto breadsticks recipe has just four ingredients, simple prep and bakes up in 15 minutes. Plus, check out the health benefits of pesto.
The tasty pesto breadsticks start with a sheet of frozen puff pastry dough. The dough needs to be thawed completely, so be sure to read the box to see how long that takes. If the dough is not thawed completely it will be hard to roll out, cut and twist the breadsticks. After rolling the puff pastry out into a rectangle, it is spread with pesto and sprinkled with grated cheese. Fold the dough over, cut into strips, give them a twist and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden.
You could add more pesto or even omit the pesto if you want just cheesy breadsticks. Parmesan could also be used in addition to the mozzarella. And while homemade pesto is always best, there's nothing wrong with using jarred pesto for this recipe. Most boxes of puff pastry come with two sheets, so this homemade breadstick recipe could be doubled.
Serve these hot, fresh-baked shortcut pesto breadsticks for dinner with pasta, chicken, beef, seafood, lamb or pork, with a salad for lunch or with a creamy pesto dip or ranch dip as an appetizer.
