This Frozen Cookie Hack Changed My Life: How to Have Fresh-baked Cookies Anytime

No really, it might sound dramatic, but this tip for keeping cookies fresh has totally made my life better. For years, my family and I baked big batches of cookies for dessert, and then consistently felt disappointed when a few days passed and they were already tasting stale. We always ended up desperately trying to give the cookies away before they became stale or even having to toss them.

But then we learned this tip from a friend: Prepare a batch of your favorite cookie dough (or even double it) as you would do normally. Keep aside enough dough for only however many cookies you plan to eat that day. Then, the rest of the dough you can freeze, to keep it tasting fresh for weeks!

You have two options for freezing the leftover dough:

  1. Roll the dough into two to three log shapes (depending on the amount of dough) and wrap each log tightly with wax paper. Twist the ends of the wax paper to seal and then stick into the freezer.
  2. Form the dough into 1-inch balls and place them onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, just as you would before you put them in the oven to bake. Then place the cookie sheet with the balls of dough into the freezer for about 20 minutes. After the balls are lightly frozen (so that they won’t stick together), remove the cookie sheet from the freezer. Then place all of the frozen balls of dough into a plastic storage bag or airtight container and place back into the freezer.

Then the next day, a week later or whenever you’re in the mood for freshly baked cookies, all you have to do is preheat the oven and grab the dough out of the freezer! If you made the dough into a log, you will need to cut thin round slices to place on the cookie sheet. If you rolled the dough into balls, you simply places those onto the cookie sheet. Bake as you would normally. And voila! Warm and fresh homemade cookies without the hassle of having to make the dough every time!

You’re welcome.

What a great idea! I used to buy premade frozen cookie dough from my kid's school years ago. Loved that it was always there ready to be baked. But this way you can make YOUR favorite cookie recipe and it's a lot cheaper. Great tip!
