Sunday was the day you could find most of my family at my grandma's house. Knowing that someone was sure to show up to see her and my grandpa, she always had a pie or cake sitting on the stove. Lucky us!
If it was a cake, you can bet she would start singing If I Knew You Were Coming I'd Have Baked a Cake, which my kids do now when I bake a cake. This is her creamy caramel cake frosting recipe she would slather over a vanilla cake. You can use this sweet caramel frosting on not only cakes, but cupcakes or dip vanilla wafers or sugar cookies into it.
To make this old-fashioned caramel frosting recipe you will need just four simple ingredients. Here is your short gluten-free shopping list: brown sugar, butter, evaporated milk and powdered sugar. The cake frosting is ready to use in about 15 minutes.
Use this creamy caramel frosting on cakes, cookies or whatever dessert you like. The easy four-ingredient frosting is also a delicious dip for apples.
