What is it about clam strips? Done right, this fried seafood is tender and just plain hard to stop eating. If you've never fried clams at home, relax. It's easy! This golden fried clam strips recipe only requires six simple ingredients and is on the table, ready to be devoured, in about 20 minutes.
To make this crunchy, moist and tender fried clams recipe you will need to grab the following ingredients from your fridge and pantry: all-purpose flour (you can use gluten-free flour), corn flour or cornmeal, buttermilk, an egg, fresh clams (read about the health benefits of shellfish) and vegetable oil for frying. If you want a little kick, grab a bottle of your favorite hot sauce, too.
You can fry these clams up in a saucepot, saucepan or deep fryer. I like to use a saucepan because it requires less vegetable oil. If you don't have vegetable oil, you could use canola oil or peanut oil. Avoid using olive oil in this recipe. Olive oil has a lower smoke point and won't result in the crunchiest clams. Don't have buttermilk? Here's how to make homemade buttermilk in minutes.
Serve this fried clam strips recipe with tartar sauce, seafood sauce, remoulade sauce and lemon wedges for dinner or as an appetizer.
