Instant ramen noodles are a wonderful lunch, dinner or ingredient in a dinner recipe. This creamy skillet ramen is a budget recipe that feeds the family for about $5. (This will, of course, vary a bit depending on what part of the country you live in.) This ramen recipe has been in my recipe binder for over 30 years, and was a dinner my kids loved to sit down to.
This easy, budget-friendly ramen recipe with sausage and peas is not only easy on the wallet, but on the table in about 25 minutes. Another bonus? You only need six simple ingredients and some water from the tap to make it. Here's your shopping list for this budget high-protein recipe: smoked sausage, onion, instant chicken ramen, flour, frozen green peas (check out the health benefits of peas) and sour cream.
You won't believe how creamy this skillet recipe is! This comforting ramen noodle dinner fills you up and is wonderful reheated the next day. Serve the creamy Asian noodles, juicy sausage and tender peas with a salad or just grab a bowl and a fork.

Ingredients
- 1 pound smoked sausage, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 9 ounces (3 packages) chicken ramen
- 2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/4 cup sour cream
Here's how to make it:
- Combine the water, flour and two of the seasoning packets from the ramen (discard the third packet). Whisk to combine. Set aside.
- Cook the onion and sausage in a skillet until onion is soft, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Cook the ramen noodles in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain.
- Add the chicken broth mixture and peas to the skillet. Cook about 5 minutes.
- Add the ramen noodles.
- Stir well to combine.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the sour cream. Season with black pepper, to taste. (Because of the ramen seasoning packets, this recipe does not need any additional salt.)
- Serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
