We have an older neighbor who is a beekeeper and a master gardener. He has several beehives in his backyard, and as you pass by his house, you can see the bees buzzing by, going about their very important work of pollinating the beautiful flowers in his garden. His bees are so productive that our elderly neighbor is able to make many jars of honey each summer, which he sells to passersby. Check out the health benefits of honey.
Last summer, we bought several jars of his honey. He gave us his wife's family recipe for old-fashioned honey sesame cookies, which are simply delightful and enjoyed by their grandchildren. Grandma's buttery cookies are the Bee's Knees (meaning, of excellent or very high quality)!
Here are the simple ingredients you need to make this wholesome buttery honey cookie recipe: butter, sesame seeds, honey, an egg, vanilla extract, flour, baking powder and salt. The granulated sugar for sprinkling is optional.
Enjoy these delicious cookies as a snack or for an old-fashioned dessert with milk, tea of coffee.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter (divided)
- 1/3 cup sesame seeds
- 1 cup honey
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 - 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, for sprinkling (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large skillet over low heat, brown the sesame seeds in 1/4 cup butter. Stir constantly to prevent burning then allow to cool.
- Cream 1/2 cup butter with the honey. Add egg and vanilla, then beat well. Add sesame seeds.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt, then add that to the mixture. Mix well. (If you want these cookies to be gluten-free, use gluten-free flour.)
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle some sugar on the cookies, if desired. (The number of cookies will depend on how much batter you use for each cookie.)
- Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are brown around the edges. Store the leftover cookies in an airtight container.
