To make this easy gingersnaps cookie recipe you will need to gather the following ingredients from your fridge, pantry and spice rack: brown sugar, vegetable shortening, molasses, an egg, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, salt, flour, baking soda and granulated sugar for sprinkling on (makes them pretty!). Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- dash of salt
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- granulated sugar, for sprinkling
Recipe Notes
- Store the cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresher longer.
- Add more or less of the baking spices to suit your tastes.
Here’s how to make it:
- Beat the brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and salt with an electric mixer.
- Combine the flour and baking soda. Add it to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Shape dough into balls and dip into the granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheets that have been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated 375-degree F oven for about 10 to 12 minutes.
