Homemade caramels are a perfect bite of sweet goodness. This easy caramel candy recipe is really easy to make and is the perfect holiday food gift.
These melt-in-your-mouth caramels have just four simple ingredients and take less than 30 minutes to make for dessert. No kidding! Here's what you need: brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. The nuts are optional.
To use this recipe as a caramel sauce, melt a half sheet of the finished caramels with 1 to 2 cups heavy cream and whisk over low heat. Use it over cakes, ice cream or your favorite desserts.
Serve these gluten-free and low-sodium caramel treats for dessert or as a sweet snack anytime you have a craving.

Ingredients
- 16 ounces brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 14 ounces (1 can) sweetened condensed milk
- nuts (optional)
Here's how you make it:
- To a heavy saucepan, add the brown sugar and butter. Stir constantly over medium heat until melted.
- Add the corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Cook, stirring, until temperature reaches 238 degrees F (use a candy thermometer).
- Pour mixture onto a buttered cookie sheet. (If you like salted caramel, sprinkle with some flakey sea salt.) Cool and cut into desired sizes.
- To add nuts, line the pan with some chopped nuts before you pour. For gift giving, wrap each caramel in a small square of parchment paper. Store the candies in an airtight container.
