Put a chuck roast in the slow cooker with a few other ingredients, and that evening get ready to sink your teeth into the best barbecue sandwich. Instead of firing up the grill in this hot weather, you could be inside in the A/C while the slow cooker does all the work.
This slow-cooked barbecue beef is moist, tender and juicy. With only five minutes of prep, you can do other things while this beef recipe does its magic in the slow cooker. To make this barbecue beef you will need a boneless beef chuck roast, ketchup, brown sugar, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard and garlic powder. If you're going to serve it as sandwiches, grab some hamburger buns and your favorite toppings, too.
Serve this high-protein, shredded barbecue sandwich recipe with cole slaw (get my easy cole slaw recipe) and you've got a meal that would make any Texan proud.

Ingredients
- 1 boneless beef chuck roast (3 to 4 pounds)
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- hamburger buns or slider buns (optional)
Here’s how you make it:
- Combine all ingredients except the chuck roast. Mix well. (Use spicy, honey, mesquite, sweet, hickory or whatever type of barbecue sauce you like. If you are on a gluten-free diet, be sure to check the label on your Worcestershire sauce. Some are gluten-free, some aren't. Stores do sell gluten-free Worcestershire sauce.)
- Put the roast in a slow cooker and season with salt and pepper. Pour the sauce over the meat.
- Cover and cook on low for about 8 to 9 hours, or until meat is very tender.
- Shred the beef with two forks or meat shredders/claws.
- Serve with hamburger or slider buns and desired toppings. Store any leftover beef in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
