Two-Ingredient French Toast Recipe Is So Fun to Make (10 Minutes, 2 Ingredients) by Melissa Vickers
Have you ever made french toast? If so, you probably made a french toast batter with milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, right? What if you could just get a pre-made, ready-to-dip batter all ready to go? I saw a hack online last week perfectly timed since my 10-year-old grand-twins were coming for a visit. They like to cook, and I figured this two-ingredient french toast recipe would be a perfect treat to try with them, especially since it is a little more decadent than I would ordinarily do just for my husband and me.
Two ingredients. That’s it. A carton of vanilla ice cream (french vanilla, if you can find it) and a loaf of thick-sliced brioche bread, and you are good to go!
Variation: Try this french toast recipe with other flavors of ice cream.
Wait, ice cream for french toast? Think about the typical ingredients for vanilla ice cream: milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla extract! Voila! Thaw it to a liquid soup, leave it in the carton for easy dipping, heat up the griddle and go!
The loaf of brioche bread, which is slightly sweet, had about 15 to 16 slices, and that used up most of the ice cream in a 1.5-quart carton. Perfect! The result? A-mazing! This breakfast or brunch recipe is perfect for beginner cooks as well as busy accomplished cooks with a sweet tooth!
Serve slices of the french toast for breakfast, brunch, as a sweet snack or even for dessert with a dollop of whipped cream or dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients
- 1 carton (1.5 quarts) vanilla ice cream, thawed in the refrigerator until soupy
- 1 loaf thick-sliced brioche bread
- butter (optional)
Here’s how to make it:
- Heat your griddle or skillet to medium. Add a tablespoon of butter if you like.
- Dip a slice of bread directly into the ice cream carton and let it drain off excess. Drop the bread onto the griddle and cook until the underside is lightly toasted.
- Flip the bread over and cook until other side is lightly browned. Keep cooked french toast in a 200-degree F oven until ready to eat.
- Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, chocolate sauce or your favorite french toast toppings.
