New Orleans Vacation With Kids: 4 Family-Friendly Places to Visit in the "Big Easy" by Kandice Cole

New Orleans Vacation With Kids: 4 Family-Friendly Places to Visit in the "Big Easy"

When my family and I first visited New Orleans, we immediately fell in love with this special city. Since that initial trip, we have visited three more times and have upcoming plans to visit again. New Orleans has a unique culture, delicious food, fascinating architecture and a strong sense of community that just draws you in right away.

Many people know about New Orleans because of Mardi Gras and the French Quarter, but there is much more to explore in the Big Easy. Here are a few of my favorite things to do in New Orleans with my husband and 3-year-old daughter:

  1. Audubon ParkAudubon Park is a large park full of oak trees and green space near Loyola University. It is a perfect place for kids to run around and to have an afternoon lunch. You can also make an entire day trip out of it by visiting Audobon Zoo, which is located inside the park.
  2. New Orleans Coffee and Beignet Company: Many people go to Cafe Du Monde for beignets, but I prefer New Orleans Coffee and Beignet Company. It is situated in the historic Uptown neighborhood and has ample parking. They also sell beignet bites, which are smaller versions of this delicious treat and perfect for toddlers to handle.
  3. Sno-La Snowballs: Snowballs are a New Orleans staple and there are stands everywhere throughout the city. My favorite spot is Sno-La, which is the home of the cheesecake-stuffed snowball. It is as good as it sounds and you have to try it.
  4. Jackson Square: Jackson Square is an open space full of historic buildings, galleries and shops. When we stroll through we usually catch a brass band performing and it is a fun time.

I hope you put New Orleans on your travel list and experience all that it has to offer!
