Ready to meet your new favorite cocktail? My daughter currently lives in Suisun City, California, and recently my husband and I got to visit her there. She and her fiancé took us to a cute little restaurant called Cast Iron Grill and Bar in downtown where we had a few cocktails after a long day of sight-seeing. The bartender made us this delicious drink made with bourbon, Aperol, orange juice, lemon juice and simple syrup. Not knowing the ratios, I attempted to recreate this drink at home – with success! This may be the signature cocktail at my house this summer.
To make this bourbon cocktail recipe you will need the following ingredients: bourbon, Aperol, orange juice, lemons and granulated sugar to make a simple syrup. The ingredients are shaken in a cocktail shaker and then strained into a cocktail glass filled with ice.
This refreshing citrusy cocktail is the perfect summer sip by the pool, at happy hour or just when you're binge-watching that crazy Netflix series. Make a pitcher before your guests arrive and let it chill in the fridge. Get ready for recipe requests. Cheers!

Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 to 2
Ingredients
- 1 ounce bourbon
- 1 ounce Aperol
- 1 ounce orange juice
- juice from 1 lemon wedge
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
Recipe Notes
- To make a simple syrup, combine equal parts granulated sugar to water in a saucepot. Cook over low heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and let it cool. Store any unused simple syrup in an airtight container to use later. I was only making one or two drinks, so I used 1/3 cup granulated sugar to 1/3 cup water.
- Adjust the measurements to suit your tastes.
Here's how to make it:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Put all the ingredients into the shaker.
- Shake, then strain into one large cocktail glass or two short cocktail glasses.
- Garnish with a lemon wedge, if desired.
