Chicago has some interesting and iconic foods. The jibarito, Italian beef sandwiches and deep dish pizzas top the list. One unique eat from Chicago that is less known is the pork sandwich. What makes some of these pork sandwiches unique is that they use bone-in pork chops. Yep, for real.
While we love a good, crispy bone-in pork chop, for this recipe we went the boneless route. The sandwich recipe may sound simple, but the combination of crispy pork, mayonnaise, mustard and sweet caramelized onions is addictive. Throw on some pickled peppers, and you've stepped into sandwich heaven.
To make this Chicago-style pork sandwich recipe you will need butter, an onion, boneless pork chops, flour, vegetable oil, mayonnaise, mustard and hamburger buns. Optional ingredients are pickled peppers.
These moist pork sandwiches would be welcome on sandwich night no matter where you live, and change up dinner. Serve them with your favorite sandwich side dishes. We like potato chips or french fries.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, sliced thin
- 4 boneless pork chops
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- mayonnaise
- mustard
- pickled peppers (optional, but recommended)
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
Recipe Notes
- If you want to use bone-in pork chops like some of the locals do, go for it! Just be sure not to bite the bone!
- If you don't like toasted buns, skip it.
Here's how to make it:
- Melt the butter in a skillet. Add the onion. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until soft and beginning to brown, about 8 minutes. Remove to a plate and set aside.
- Season the pork chops with salt and black pepper. Coat the pork chops in the flour.
- Heat the oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the pork chops and cook until crispy, golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes per side. Remove to a plate.
- Spread desired amount of mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom of the buns. Top with a pork chop, some onions, pickled peppers (if using) and the top bun. Serve immediately.
