I work very hard to keep mornings positive. So my quick parenting tip is:
Do not raise your voice in the morning.
OK, I know this can be hard with everything kids throw at us (and each other?!) in the mornings but try it. Try to be a ray of sunshine (fake it ‘til you make it!). That way, the kids do not leave the house with any yelling, any fighting.
Tell them, “Come on, now, we have to have a positive morning and start our day right.” I find it really keeps everyone a little more smiley and happy as they walk out the door.
Here’s how I think of it: I’m not motivated by someone yelling at me. I’m not inspired to do better or move faster. So it’s no wonder my yelling doesn’t get my kids out the door any faster and with a positive attitude. So if I want a peaceful start, I need to try some positivity.
So far, so good!
