Oh, Laurie Balles Simpson , my heart is full of pain and recognition, reading your words. Thank you for sharing this deeply personal and painful story. I know that many people will relate to this, as I do, and that they will see they are not alone. You are powerful and you are 10 feet tall. (Funny, you and I are the same height!) Keep on being that empowered woman. The 15-year-old you is loved and will be healed by your courage. Thanks so much for this powerful reflection.

This is something I wrote for myself as I worked through things. I didn’t intend to share it, like many of the things I write, but I shared it with my sister. She said, Laur, you really should share that. So many people would relate. That was the first I thought…maybe I will. Then months later, Ann Marie reaches out about contributing again for this amazing, supportive platform. I felt like it was a sign. I’m sorry to know that you can relate too however look at you now! I’ve carried this weight for far too long and although I feel very vulnerable sharing, it’s worth it. A weight has been lifted. My intention was to share my story so others knew they aren’t alone but after letting it out, I’m thinking I might’ve needed to hear that too. Thank you for the opportunity. Pulling those roots one step at a time!

Laurie Balles Simpson, knowing and loving you makes it difficult to read this but I am so proud of you for sharing your story. I have no doubt that it will help others. You are an amazing writer, mom, friend, sister, daughter, aunt, co-worker, human being-- and you deserve nothing but the best. I'm so glad our paths crossed are those years ago in "the North Country." xoxo

If it were anyone but you or a small handful of other people, I might not have ever let this one out of my Notes journal. Thank you for your support, and friendship and love. Just like the timing of you reaching out to me (see my reply to Eliza), I believe our paths crossed in the North Country for a reason. Forever grateful for our friendship.

I believe that, too. I'm also grateful to you. Miss you so much! xoxo
