Love it or loathe it, one day you will find yourself having to communicate an idea or an opinion, whether around the dining table or in a board room, in a book club or on a major stage. Here are three quick tips to nail your next presentation from global MC, speaker and coach, Daniel Ramamoorthy, or commonly known simply as Dan Ram:

• Story Over Statistics: "Once you have determined what you want to say, focus on how you get that message across. In most cases, stories will create that deep empathy that will allow your audience to resonate and remember your message. Consider a personal anecdote, a thought-provoking question or an interesting case study as a way to grab your audience’s attention. The key is to find a story that the audience would consider both relatable and relevant."

• Practice, Practice, Practice: "I usually start by using the voice recorder on my phone and then listening back to analyze pronunciation, pacing and vocal dynamics. I then practice in front of the mirror to analyze eye contact, facial expressions and body language. And finally I rehearse in front of literally anyone who is willing to listen whether over a webcam or in person. This doesn’t include the 30 other times I will rehearse in the shower, while driving, while walking to a meeting or just pacing around my room."

• Body Language: "Your message will communicate primarily through your body language than your words. Think about how everything from your eyebrows to your shoulders to your stance is aligning with what you are trying to communicate. Stand proud with your chest out when making a declaration but drop your shoulders and lower your gaze if you are humbly submitting something. And don’t forget that eyes are the gateway so maintain eye contact and speak as much through your eyes as your mouth!"
