The Only Gift I Really Need on Father's Day Is What's Right in Front of Me by Michael Kennedy

As Father’s Day and gift chat quickly approached, I was scrolling back through my musings and came across these letters that I write to my kids on their birthdays. I wrote this to my 4-year-old on her recent birthday and it reminded me that the greatest gifts in truth are the little lives that are living and breathing right in front of me. They keep me young, happy, on my toes and provide enough love to fill my cup daily.

Dear Bear,

Love of my life, I am astounded in how fast the waters of time have flowed under our bridge and just how completely magical these waters have been. From your morning hugs to bedtime giggles, you bring wonder, sweetness and a unique authenticity to each and every day of our lives and we love you to the ends of the earth. May year four of your life bring you more happiness, friendships and a greater appreciation for all things rainbows, sunshine and optimism. Rock on little lady. Let’s do this.

Gadgets, experiences, meals and trips are always wonderful, but cherishing the present and embracing what’s happening right in front of me is the only gift I need. Good, bad and crazy these children and my family are the best presents this guy can get.
