After my surgeries, my kids and I would color together. It was really helpful for all of us.

Coloring is great. I made my husband, sister, mom and college age son decorate easter eggs by simply coloring with crayons. They all grumbled abut doing it, then everyone got into the flow and had a really good time.

Thank you for sharing this and I can attest to its effectiveness.
My husband and daughter, who was 8 at the time were in a horrendous rollover crash on 1/1/2008. My daughter was in a booster with head protection and her only injury was a bruise on her leg where the seat belt clamp on the seat broke. My husband on the other hand looked like frankenstein. I won't go into anymore details, but for 6 weeks after I sat on the sofa with my daughter on one side of me and son who was 4 on the other and we colored for most of the day. We had those giant coloring books by crayon and we colored every page, then bought more.
I didn't realize at the time, by whatever means I naturally gravitated to coloring which turned out to be so therapeutic until now with the emergence of adult coloring books. Knowing how healing that was for me and my children, I bought several coloring books and sets of colored pencils to give to a dear friend who lost her husband to a fall while working on their boat a few months ago just short of their 48th anniversary. She says she never thought there would be anything that would soothe the anguish, but coloring has.
