Helicopter Parenting May Cause Problems for Kids (a Must Read)!

OMG, yes yes yes! I see so much helicopter parenting, and kids who are seemingly helpless because of it. It's fostering a culture of co-dependence that is bound to be harmful as these kids try to manage their own lives. Thakns for shedding light, Donna John!

I agree, @elisa. Some parents just need to take a step back sometimes.

I agree. It sends a very clear message of "You're not capable of doing this by yourself " which produces a very low sense of personal worth and a belief that they are incompetant. That kind of programming can have very negative consquences.

Thank you for weighing in, Barb Desmarais, your insights mean so much! I hope this info helps some parents realize they're hurting more than they're helping (despite good intentions).

Yes I hate helicopter parents and then they try to helicopter my kids at the park. Yes
I know what my kid doing and yes I am allowing them to climb up the slide or play in the puddle or mud. My buddy makes helicopter noises when they come around him to make them go away
