#MotherhoodRocks: Why Being a Mom Is the Stepping Stone to Your True Self Motherhood Faith & Spirituality
Becoming a mom wasn’t easy for me. After five years of trying to conceive via IVF (in vitro fertilization) I finally became pregnant – with twins. (I remember the stick reading positive then sobbing, shaking uncontrollably for an hour, wailing upon my knees, “Thank you, God.”)
My pregnancy was perfect. I sang to my girls, talked to them, thanking the Lord … until that fateful day when I saw red. The doctors tried everything, but 22-week-old babies are just not meant to be. I delivered them; they lived for two hours then gasped their last breaths. Goodbye, Suzannah and Sophia. I’ll love you forever.
Blackness, shock, despair, bottomless grief engulfed me. But something, something deep inside allowed me to face it all, so I could eventually become the mother I knew I was meant to be.
Motherhood. Motherhood pulled me through – and knowing that my deep need to be a mom and all it would bring me was my destiny – the stepping-stone to the best me. It made me strong. Now as I parent to my beautiful teenage boy every day, I am that woman I knew I was meant to be.
So, the next time you feel burdened by being a mom, remember my tale. And why being a mom is your destiny. #MotherhoodRocks.
