Want to Give Your Kids a Memorable Gift? Spend Time Alone With Each of Them! Parenting

Last weekend, my older son spent the night at a friend’s house. My husband had to work late, so that meant that I had a rare night alone with my younger son. We decided to make it a special night. I told him that we could go out to eat and he could pick the place. After dinner, he could decide what we did next. I expected him to ask to go to a movie or a play place with a bounce house. Instead, he surprised me by saying he wanted to play a board game.

Such a simple and sweet request. It was clear that he was thrilled to have quality time together, just the two of us. And I loved it as much as he did. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to do it again, and a chance to have a special night with my older son, too.

Great tip, Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead ! I got to spend most of Sunday with my son, one-on-one time. He's 23, but it never stops being important.

I asked my son this week if he'd like to do anything at all this weekend. He said "spend time with Papa". I was expecting something totally different. It's so important to spend quality time with our children. When he said it my eyes filled with tears. My precious boy 😊
