Have you seen some of the Father’s Day greeting cards out there? Dads are depicted as lazy, uninvolved, beer-guzzling, TV-obsessed couch potatoes. Such portraits do not reflect the countless fathers I know who are actively involved in their kids’ lives:
- making school lunches
- helping with school projects
- changing diapers
- attending performances
- coaching Little League
- tucking their kids in at bedtime
So this Father’s Day, let’s celebrate the engaged, loving dads in our lives, the stay-at-home-dads, the single dads, the partners in parenting. Let’s honor all the fathers who are giving their all for their families. And if those greeting cards don’t capture what we’d like to say to the special dads in our lives, we can make our own cards this year!
