Reading Can Help Reduce Stress (From Dr. Seuss to Dr. Shefali)! by Kaila Weingarten
Mindfulness
A University of Sussex study found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68 percent. It works better and faster than other relaxation methods, like listening to music or drinking tea, because your mind is invited into a literary world that is free of everyday stress (oh, the places you’ll go!).
- Find a book or magazine that piques your interest. Reading only helps reduce your stress if you pick something that won't upset you, like the news.
- Set aside 30 minutes a day for reading a magazine or book – whatever it may be!
- Find a special place free of distractions for reading.
Hopefully, your love of reading will spread to your entire family! Happy reading!
