Do you use cotton swabs to clean your ears or your kids' ears on a regular basis? They can do a lot more harm than good, according to an ear, nose and throat doctor I spoke to. He informed me that he sees a few patients each day because of repercussions caused by using cotton swabs. 

Your ears clean themselves naturally and using cotton swabs reverses this process by pushing the wax further in. A conductive hearing loss, infection or upper respiratory problem are symptoms caused by this seemingly routine process. As they say, put nothing smaller than your elbow in your ear and leave well enough alone!
