Salads Aren't Always Healthy: Here Are 3 Ways to Make Your Salads Healthier Nutrition

While a salad often seems like a healthy go-to option, many don’t realize how high in calories they can be. Here are three ways to keep your salad healthy:

  • Ditch the fatty proteins. Avoid anything “crispy” or “fried” in your salad and opt for grilled chicken, shrimp or fish. Foods like sausages or fatty cold cuts should be avoided.
  • Avoid high-fat extras. Cheese, bacon, fried tortilla strips, crispy fried noodles, sour cream and oily croutons are all popular salad fixings, but they can hike up the calorie and fat content of your salad higher than that of a cheeseburger! You may want to rethink them.

It does seem like the "extras" that make salads so interesting are what turns them unhealthy. Thank you for these tips, Susan Bowerman !
