Hitting the Road? 7 Tips to Outsmart the Flu While You Travel Family Health

Already twice as many people have tested positive for the flu than this time last year, and it’s still early in the season. If you’re planning to travel, follow these seven tips to stay healthy on the road:

  • Make sure everyone older than 6 months has gotten their flu shot.
  • Wash hands religiously, and long enough to sing an entire round of the happy birthday song.
  • Carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer for times when soap is not available.
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth – this is how flu germs enter your body.
  • Cough into the crook of your elbow, not on your neighbor.
  • Wipe down tray tables, shopping carts and other common surfaces with disinfectant wipes.
  • Avoid contact with people who aren’t feeling well (e.g., that hug from your uncle with the wicked cough).
