Prescription Medications: Can Antibiotics Help if You Have a Virus or Flu? Find Out!

A lot of people who come into my office with a virus want an antibiotic. Antibiotics won’t help you get better if you have a virus. And did you know that antibiotics:

  • Breed resistance to antibiotics.
  • Can change the gut flora.
  • Can cause women to have a yeast infection.

Antibiotics are made to treat specific types of bacteria. In some cases there are antiviral medications like those that help treat the flu. Unfortunately, there aren’t many antivirals out there, so the best medicine really is rest and fluids.
