Should Bronchitis Be Treated With Antibiotics? You May Be Surprised! by Dr. Heidi Renner

Many patients think if they or their child has bronchitis it should be treated with an antibiotic, but this isn’t always the case. If the illness is a result of a viral infection the antibiotic won’t help. Often the best treatment is:
- rest
- lots of fluids
- a humidifier
- fever/pain relievers
If the patient has shortness of breath and wheezing, the doctor may prescribe a breathing treatment as well as an oral steroid medication.
