Pneumococcal Disease: What You Should Know & Symptoms to Watch For!

Pneumococcal disease is caused by the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. It can lead to serious conditions such as:

  • pneumonia
  • meningitis
  • bacteraemia
  • acute otitis media

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, kids younger than 2 are most at risk for the disease. Look out for prolonged symptoms of flu as well as cough, vomiting, earache, among others. Ask your doctor about the vaccines available to prevent pneumococcal disease in children and adults.
