Safeguarding Family Documents During an Evacuation: How to Keep Everything at Your Fingertips! by Laura Greenwald
Now that hurricane and wildfire season are here, there's one thing that every family needs in their emergency bin: everything. Problem is, you never know what you might need during an evacuation. Whether it's the deed to your home, insurance documents, medical history or your family photos, the secret is making your information accessible even if you're in another state. How? By putting it in at least three different locations.
First, scan everything you want to safeguard or could possibly need until your home is back up and running. Then place it on your PC and on flash drives in at least three of these locations:
- Plastic evacuation bin or attach it to your key ring.
- Safe deposit box or water/fireproof safe in your own city.
- Safe deposit box or water/fireproof safe in the city where you’ll be evacuating.
- Password-protected file in the cloud.
