As the temperatures begin to rise, so does our need to stay hydrated. Drinking the recommended eight glasses or more of water for some can be hard to swallow and can feel like a chore. Did you know 20 percent of our H20 comes from the foods we consume, such as fruits and vegetables? So, why not eat your water? Here’s a list of foods that can help keep you hydrated:
- bell peppers
- broccoli
- cantaloupe
- celery
- cucumbers
- spinach
- strawberries
- tomatoes
- watermelon
- zucchini
These fruits and vegetables, comprised of more than 90 percent water, are not only healthy and delicious, but provide you with natural sugars, phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins. They help keep us hydrated, are low in calories and will leave you feeling full longer thanks to their fiber content. Also, many of these ingredients can be combined to create a refreshing summer salad, incorporated into other recipes or added to a meal replacement shake.
