Skin Alert: New Tanning Bed Safety Measures Proposed By FDA!

Tanning beds are known contributors to skin cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued two proposed rules to protect public health by preventing the use of sunlamp products (aka indoor tanning beds) by minors and reducing the risk of using these devices for adults.

  • The first would restrict use of sunlamp products to individuals 18 and older and require the signing of a risk acknowledgement certificate.
  • The second would require sunlamp manufacturers and tanning facilities to take additional measures to improve the overall safety of these devices.
